At long last and to commemorate the first anniversary celebrations, the Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities took up trial runs between the 10 km Ameerpet-HiTec City stretch of Corridor Three - Nagole to HiTec City route with all top officials on board on Thursday.
HMR Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy said trains would be run in “twin single line method” where the double line railway track functions as two separate single lines where each railway line works as an independent single line. Trains are operated in both up and down directions on the same line as if these are two independent single lines.
“This method is used by many railways in the world including Indian Railways under some special circumstances will be followed till train reversal facility beyond HiTec City metro station is completed. Both conventional railway signalling systems and Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) system permit this type of twin single line train operations,” he claimed.
Train reversal
Mr. Reddy admitted that the train reversal being worked upon at the HiTec City will be taking few more months for completion. Several technical challenges had to be tackled in building the metro line in Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills due to sharp curvatures and gradients on roads with steep climbs. Besides, land acquisition took a while because of several court cases, he explained.
Nevertheless, L&TMRH has achieved a major milestone in providing the eagerly waited metro rail access to HiTec City, said the MD.
