In yet another upgrade to make it more interactive and assistive, the Google Maps has introduced some more features with enhanced navigation and precise search options for Vizagites, especially for two-wheeler riders.
The new features will help the users access real-time information more easily, Google Maps for India Director Krish Vitaldevara told the media here on Thursday.
“Now, the Google Map will not only show the route map, but also the possible shortcuts, vital landmarks and the estimated time of arrival (ETA).
“ The algorithm will consider all possible parameters such as traffic jams during the peak hours and signal frequencies on a real-time basis,” he explained.
To make it easy for the two-wheeler riders, he said, a special ‘2W’ option has been introduced.
“The vital landmarks differ for two-wheeler and four-wheeler riders. The ‘2W’ option will show the landmarks that are more convenient for two-wheeler riders.,” he said.
To make it easy for the users of Indian languages, the new Google Map have added six regional languages including Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, Hindi, Gujarati, Kannada and Malayalam.
Further, in an answer to the problems associated with the app that occupies more storage space, the Google has launched the ‘Google Map Go’. “It is a web-based application meant for low-end android phone users as it occupies very little storage space,” Anal Ghosh of Google Maps said.
Meanwhile, the Google Map has forged a tie-up with Andhra Pradesh Road Development Corporation (APRDC). As part of the move, all the 450 State highways covering almost 14,000 km in Andhra Pradesh have been mapped accurately with precision.
Search with ‘Plus Code’
Further, it has launched a ‘Plus Code’ service for the benefit of people searching addresses.
“The six-character plus codes act as a digital address for the people or places that don’t have a physical one.,” Mr. Krish said.
To engage the users, a ‘local guide’ concept has also been introduced. “One needs to click the visuals of a place or location with some details, including reviews on the Google Maps for which reward points can be won,” Mr. Ghosh added.
