Sci-fi movies have been the specialty of Hollywood, but now filmmakers down South are also gaining significant expertise in this domain and dishing out fantastic stuff. After the grand success of 2010 movie Robot, Director Shankar is here to captivate your senses once again with 2.0, which is said to be even better than its predecessor. This time, the movie has double the firepower, as along with Rajinikanth, there’s Akshay Kumar as well to set your screens on fire. As you will realize after you watch the movie, the story has a specific message about the growing use of mobile phones and how it can be harmful to living beings and the environment.

The core story begins when mobile phones start flying off people’s hands and off the shelves in mobile phone shops. Nobody knows what’s happening and what may be causing the strange phenomenon, not even the government. This is why leading scientist Dr Vaseegaran (Rajinikanth) is called in to investigate the matter and find the solution to the problem. Dr Vaseegaran joins the probe along with his assistant Nila (Amy Jackson), who is a humanoid robot. But things get worse, as a giant bird named Pakshirajan (Akshay Kumar) created out of mobile phones starts to attack the city. Since time is running out, Dr Vaseegaran decides to revive Chitti (Rajinikanth), the advanced robot that was earlier dismantled. Chitti or 2.0 will have to confront Pakshirajan and neutralize him. But, will he succeed and what will it take to stop the menacing Pakshirajan.

Being a Rajinikanth movie, the focus is obviously on the superstar. The movie has plenty of loose ends, but the grand canvas of the movie adequately covers for its various shortcomings. Akshay Kumar has also done a good job in his role of Pakshirajan, which appears to be a mix of good and bad. One of the best things about the movie is its advanced visual effects, which are a treat to watch. They provide quite an immersive experience without being too hard on your eyes. Background score by AR Rahman and Qutub-E-Kripa is quite good and complements the happenings on the screen. However, the movie does lack humor and dialogues could have been more interesting.

Rajinikanth films are always a treat to watch. And this one’s special, as you can enjoy it with your family. Kids are sure going to love this one.
