While her mother, a construction labourer, was busy with work, little Ammu found herself a corner at the construction site to sit and study. Soon, a man approaches and tries to befriend her. He then moves to rub the girl’s shoulders.

The story is of a seven-minute-long film named after the character, Ammu, made by a city-based NGO that aims to break the secrecy and silence around child abuse by dwelling into the importance of awareness. The film is an attempt by Parisu Trust, a city-based NGO, in association with Miracle Pictures to highlight the need for cautioning children and safeguarding them. The film was released recently and is available on YouTube.
Sheila Charles Mohan, founder, Parisu Trust, and a former member of Child Welfare Committee, said that her work in the welfare committee and in the Censor Board prompted her to make an awareness film. “I wanted to do something for children as a member of censor board. Then I saw so many cases as a CWC member and wanted to do something impactful for them through films. Michael, the director of the film, came on board and Ammu was born,” she said.
Ammu was next seen suffering from some sort of a seizure as others rushed her to a hospital. It was only there that doctors calmed the mother and explained to her that the little girl had pretended to have seizures to scare the predator away and called the child helpline 1098 to report the incident and get the man arrested.
