Recruit guest lecturers after scrutiny, govt told
tnn | Nov 30, 2018, 00:48 ISTCoimbatore:The government college teachers have raised concerns about the move to make permanent the guest lecturers, who were recruited without proper scrutiny, and have called for proper recruitment of teachers and guest lecturers to government colleges in the state.
President of the Tamil Nadu Government College Teachers’ Association (TNGCTA) T Veeramani said the state government had announced in the assembly that the services of guest lecturers would be regularized. “This would lead to guest lecturers, who were recruited without proper scrutiny being made permanent faculty members, which would result in several irregularities.”
Veeramani said there were around 2,500 guest lecturers working in government colleges across the state, of which only around 300 were fully qualified. “There are four categories of guest lecturers: Those who are fully qualified as per UGC norms; those who lack the basic minimum qualification for college teachers; teachers who have acquired doctorates through unscrupulous means; and those who completed PhD full time when they were guest lecturers. Except the first category, other three are unqualified,” he said.
