Pune: With new curriculum and a new pattern of question papers, which are more activity

ractical based, English and Mathematics subjects will no longer have multiple sets of question papers in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Board examinations to be held in March 2019.

“This year, with the new curriculum, the students would not be answering many objective questions. The questions would be more of a subjective nature and would be open-ended. In such circumstances, it would not be possible for the students to copy each other’s answers and the students will have to use their own reasoning power to answer/solve the questions. Hence, on recommendations from Balbharati, we have decided to do away with multiple sets of question papers,” said Shakuntala Kale, Chairperson, Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE).

The multiple sets of question papers were brought into the SSC board examinations from the year 2004, wherein the students were distributed papers from four different sets - A, B, C and D. The measure was taken to prevent cases of copying.

With the preparations for SSC Board examinations on in full swing, parents and teachers were concerned by the messages, which stated that the students would not be allowed to wear wristwatches. Reacting to this, Kale said, “We have not issued any such notice, and we do not see any possibility as well of bringing in such a rule. While the usual electronic gadgets like smartphones and smartwatches, calculators, etc. will be banned from the examination halls, we have not banned the normal wristwatches.”
