Australian boxer Anthony Mundine has used a racist slur to describe his opponent Jeff Horn.

Mundine referred to Horn as a 'cracker' - a term used to describe white people of a lower socioeconomic status, during a joint press conference on Wednesday.

Horn, who will fight the Indigenous boxer in Brisbane on Friday night, was left fuming after the derogatory term was made against him.

Mundine made the slur after he was asked about his controversial views on the Australian national anthem.

Mundine said he would be fired up if the anthem was played before the game.  

'I don't want the anthem to play, I made my stance very clear on that,' he said.

'They want to play a white supremacist song at an event that I'm involved in ... I don't want it to be played.'   

When a reporter told Mundine that Horn wanted the anthem played, he responded saying: 'Well he's the cracker they want him to be, you feel me.'

Horn hit back saying if Mundine wants to 'erase racism he's got to stop doing it himself'.      

'Putting people in boxes and categories is the way to be racist and that's what he's doing,' 

'I just prefer to treat everyone equally and that's it.' 

Mundine, 43, said he would be 'sitting down' when the national anthem Advance Australia Fair played at Suncorp Stadium on November 30. 

'That song was a theme song for the White Australia policy, which was that no one was allowed into the country except white fellas,' he said. 

The 43-year-old announced he wouldn't participate in the national anthem before his rematch with Daniel Geale in 2013 and his second fight with Danny Green in 2017.
