LUCKNOW: A day after a youth was shot at for objecting to a molestation bid, police arrested the main accused's father for providing shelter to the former and his friends on Tuesday.

On Sunday, Ankit Singh (26) was shot at by Ajay Pratap Singh after he had objected to the accused trying to molest a female.

Circle officer (Gomtinagar) AC Srivastava said the police were tipped-off that Ajay and his friends were hiding in his house in Barabanki, after which they conducted the raid. "Police saw that the vehicle in which the accused had fled from the crime scene was parked at the house. A man was also spotted walking in a suspicious manner near the car," he added.

The man identified himself as Ajay's father Ashok Kumar Singh (52). In the meantime, he waved at Ajay and his friends signalling them to flee. "Police tried to stop them but they managed to escape," said the CO. An FIR has been registered against Ashok.
