The relatives of the bus accident victims of three villages in Pandavapura taluk of Mandya district, have decided to conduct the 11th day death ceremony together, instead of performing it separately.

Thirty passengers – including eight from Vade Samudra, five from Damarahalli and four from Chikka Koppalu – were killed after a private mini-bus ‘Rajkumar’, fell into the Visvesvaraya Canal near Kanaganamaradi on November 24.

The families of the victims at Vade Samudra and Chikka Koppalu told The Hindu on Tuesday that they had already decided to conduct the 11th day ceremony together. According to them, the food that will be prepared to offer to the villagers will be wasted if individual ceremonies were performed as all villagers may not attend every ceremony. These three villages witnessed more deaths.

“The villages have not recovered from the continuous drought situation. Considering this, we cannot afford to waste food. Therefore, with mutual understanding, we have decided to conduct the ceremonies of all victims together,” an elderly person at Vade Samudra told The Hindu.

The death ceremony of the other victims will be conducted in their villages.
