R&D expert from US to conduct faculty development program at CHARUSAT

VADODARA: Acclaimed and renowned multidisciplinary R&D expert from United States Dr Anil S Patel is conducting faculty development program on 'creativity, innovation and problem solving' at the Indukaka Ipcowala Institute of Management at Changa-based Charotar University of Science and Technology (CHARUSAT).

More than 50 faculty members from various universities from across Gujarat are participating in this program which started from November 25 and will continue till December 1.

The US-based scientist of Indian origin, Patel has so far travelled 115 countries of all continents. A bachelors from M S Uni9versity, Patel, had gone his masters from the Purdue University, US.


He has successfully demonstrated his ability to recruit, train, mentor and lead interdisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers in the fields of material science and technology, modern biology, modern optical science, engineering and technology at Alcon.


Alcon is the world's biggest provider of eye care products and the leader for innovations in intraocular cataract lenses (IOLs) created under the leadership of Patel which are in more than 100 million eyes till the date. He retired as vice president of research for surgical products at Alcon.


CHARUSAT has been funded around Rs 20 million by Dr Anil and Asha Patel towards the establishment of Anil and Asha Patel Endowment Fund for a course on creativity at the university.


"A course on creativity, problem solving and innovation has also been initiated for all the undergraduate students of semester IV across the university. All the activities under the chair are coordinated by the Indukaka Ipcowala Institute of Management," said Dr Govind Dave, principal.
