Mumbai: A 50-year-old driver of an oil tanker was charred to death on Monday night as the tanker burst into flames after an accident at Wadala-Chembur Link road. The driver of the tanker was speeding and trying to overtake another truck when it hit the vehicle from behind. Due to the collision, the oil tanker slipped, caught fire and crashed underneath the monorail at Bhakti Park, Wadala.
The mishap occurred at Lodha building close to IMAX threatre and Wadala monorail station at 10:47 pm. Pratap More (50), the tanker driver was killed in the accident. The fire brigade officials and the police removed his body from the driver’s cabin. He was rushed to the Lokmanya Tilak Hospital at Sion where he was declared dead.
The tanker (MH-43-Y-2773) was owned by a national carrier transport company. Ankush Katkar, senior police inspector, Wadala Truck Terminal police said, “The tanker met with an accident which led to fire sparks and explosion. Unfortunately, he could not be saved.” The fire brigade officials declared it as a level 2 fire at 11 pm.on Monday night.
