LUCKNOW: Consumers' woes related to incorrect, inflated or manipulated electricity bills in Lucknow might end completely soon.
The bill generation, which is being done through Android mobile app in most parts of the city at present, is being improved further. Lesa has started a trial in which mobiles of billing staff is connected to electricity meter and readings are downloaded.
At present, the staff is using a mobile-based billing app and generating bills instantly, but for readings they have to click picture of the meter or feed readings manually in the mobile software to generate a bill. Under the new system, the role of staff would be minimised to connecting the mobile with the meter. The meter reading staff might be given a remote-controlled device, instead of Android-based smart phones which are being used at present.
The device when taken close to the meter will record the exact readings. Chief engineer, commercial (level-1), Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (MVVNL), A K Singh, said, "The new system is under trial."
