Lucknow: Minority welfare department drops Indira Awas Yojana housing scheme LUCKNOW: No houses under Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) will be constructed in minority dominated areas in the state now with the minority welfare department deciding to drop the scheme and getting them built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) instead.

The decision was taken in a review meeting of minority welfare department. The meeting was chaired by cabinet minister Laxmi Narayan Chowdhary while ministers of state Baldev Singh Aulakh and Mohsin Raza were also present.

A senior officer of the department present in the review meeting, said, “It was decided that small projects for which bigger schemes have come should be dropped so that there is no duplication.”

He added, “Under the plan, IAY is to be shelved since funds under the scheme were not being received for the past year. The beneficiaries had also been ruing since Rs 72,000 is given for building a house under IAY, while Rs 1.25 lakh is sanctioned under PMAY-G.”

Cabinet minister Laxmi Narayan Chowdhary laid stress on the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) and the multi-sectoral development programme.

Chowdhary said that a fixed deadline for work to be completed under the two programs should be brought on record at the time of contract with the executing agency.
