Doda: 70-year-old Anganwadi worker tries her luck in Panchayat Elections

For the first time in Jammu & Kashmir's Doda, a 70-year-old woman is contesting Panchayat Elections. Sameena Begum has worked for nearly five decades as Anganwadi worker and now trying her luck in Panchayat elections from ward number 1 of Lower-Arnona in the Ghat Block of Jammu and Kashmir’s district Doda. She desires to contest polls with the motto to work for women empowerment. “I am contesting for sarpanch candidate and If, I get chance to serve my people I will definitely work for their advancement.” she said. But now, after Doda being declared as militancy free zones, many young, old and educated women are contesting elections freely.
