A waiter, deposing as a witness before a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in the Sheena Bora murder trial on Tuesday, identified Sanjeev Khanna, the ex-husband of Indrani Mukerjea, as the guest he served food to on the day of the murder.
He was responding to a question by special public prosecutor Bharat Badami if the guest was present in the courtroom. The waiter, Hardiyal Mehra, said Mr. Khanna was staying in room 216 of Hilltop Hotel in Worli, where Mr. Mehra was on night duty on April 24, 2015.
On being asked by defence counsel Niranjan Mundargi if he had any documentary evidence to prove he was on duty that might, Mr. Mehra said he did not. He said when he went up to the room to serve the food, the guest was in the room. He said he was serving food to three to four other rooms as well, but could not recollect the room numbers.
Meanwhile, Ms. Mukerjea’s husband, Peter, moved an application through his lawyers for access to a bank locker jointly operated by him and his sons, Rahul and Robin. The CBI will file its reply to this application and to his bail plea on Friday. Mr. Mukerjea filed his third bail plea on November 3, saying there was no evidence to connect him with the case.
