HYDERABAD: The University of Hyderabad and members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) filed two separate complaints with the Gachibowli police station on Tuesday alleging the Himagiri Hospital of medical negligence in death of Rashmi Ranjan Suna on November 25.
“We have received two separate complaints — one from the university and the other from the students — on the same incident. In cases alleging medical negligence, a preliminary investigation has to be conducted by the a medical team following which the FIR will be filed,” said R Srinivas, Gachibowli inspector.
The complaint submitted by the ABVP squarely blamed the hospital authorities for the delay in treatment. “Due to delay in treatment, Suna’s condition deteriorated rapidly and he ended up having multi-organ failure. The lack of treatment and diagnosis at Himagiri Hospital has been identified by the chief medical officer of the University of Hyderabad (UoH). It is in this context that we request you to launch an investigation regarding the tragic demise of Rashmi Ranjan Suna,” read the complaint, adding that the hospital was blacklisted by the university authorities for offering sub-standard services in the past.
Protests continued to rock the UoH on the third day as students demanded the administration to accept their demands of releasing compensation of Rs 25 lakh and taking legal action against the hospital. Slogans such as “humari maange puri karo” and “blame game nahi sahenge” resonated in front of the administrative building where students staged protests till evening.
This is the first incident which has brought together even the rival student organisations such as the ABVP and the Ambedkar Students Association (ASA) and Students Federation of India.
