Thousands of anti-government "yellow vest" protesters clashed with the police at Champs-Elysees avenue in Paris. Wearing high-visibility yellow jackets, they were protesting the increase in diesel tax, justified as an anti-pollution levy by the govt. Supporters of the protest believe the President Emmanuel Macron’s policies favor the rich and find the poor. The clashes turned violent as police used tear gas and water cannon to clear the area. Macron has vowed to respond to the grievances and ruled out any parallels between the protests and discontent during Brexit
