Alarm scares ATM thieves

more-in

Investing in a new alarm system for its ATM kiosk proved to be a good idea for Andhra Bank, as it prevented a burglary.

On Sunday night, thieves entered the ATM booth near Navrang signal in Rajajinagar and tried to open the ATM using a gas cutter. This set off the alarm, which also sent an alert to bank officials in Mumbai.

The officials immediately alerted the Rajajinagar police, who rushed to the spot. However, the thieves seemed to have fled after hearing the alarm.

According to the police, the thieves were wearing monkey caps. They had sprayed some chemical on the CCTV camera inside the kiosk.

“We are analysing footages from other CCTV cameras on the road,” said an official.
