One arrested for extorting money from hotelier

CHANDIGARH: The police have arrested a person with a pistol and seven cartridges for demanding extortion money from a hotel owner in Burail two days ago.

According to the information given by the cops, a complaint was given to them by Sudhir, a resident of Palsora, Chandigarh, who reported to them that he was the owner of Hotel Rock Star situated in Burail village. On Friday night around 11.30pm, three person came to his hotel and demanded extortion money. The complainant identified the three as Monty Shah, Deepu and Rahul, alias Chikna, of whom Monty brandished a pistol at Sudhir and demanded money.


Following this, Deepu hit Sudhir in the face while Rahul opened his drawer and took away Rs 10,000. After that, all three persons threatened him to not to delay in paying money to them in future.


Cops were called on the spot and after verifying the facts they registered a case under Section 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint in order to commit the theft), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (act done by several persons with same intention) of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act at the Sector 34 police station and started the investigations.


Monty was arrested on the identification of the complainant. The accused was produced before the court, which sent him to four-day police remand. A countrymade pistol with seven cartridges were seized, said DSP (Crime) Pawan Kumar.
