Of the 19 teams participating in the competition, four are from city engineering colleges.
Team Inferno, which comprises 20 students from Sir M Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, was adjudged the winner in the 2016 edition of the marathon. This time, they built an energy-efficient vehicle that uses a brushless DC motor and drivetrain for better efficiency on the race track.
Project Garuda, a team of 25 students from RV College of Engineering, will showcase an electric vehicle prototype equipped with a front-steering mechanism, a custom-built motor controller and a telemetry system that will display real-time data to the driver. The electric vehicle is touted to give mileage exceeding 80km/kWh.
Team Meduso Racing, a team of 10 students from Christ deemed-to-be University, has focused more on fuel-efficiency and optimum acceleration.
Team Akruth from the New Horizon College of Engineering has, included solar panels in their electric vehicle prototype, keeping in mind the theme of the challenge — reducing CO2 emissions through eco-friendly alternatives.
