Kia is following up on the glimpse of the tall taillights on the redesigned Soul by giving away nearly the whole design of the 2020 model, due to be unveiled Wednesday at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
With the third-generation, 2020 Soul, Kia appears to be sticking with the recognizable profile of the tall hatch, one that has been credited with carving out its niche and even inspiring a few imitators.
It's also abundantly clear that the floating-roof look is quickly spreading across the automotive industry, now present on SUVs, crossovers, sedans and hatchbacks.
The next-generation Soul will go on sale next year and is expected to be offered with a choice of a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four or a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four engine. Both are carryovers from the current model, and the 2.0-liter is the base engine.
The Soul is also expected to be offered again as an electric vehicle but with a range greater than the current model's 111 miles.
The EV model may not debut immediately but is expected to join the lineup a little later. Kia has offered the electric Soul in a handful of states, and sales have not been on par with other EVs on the market.
The next-gen Kia Soul EV is expected to receive the same 39-kWh battery as the Kia e-Niro, which should give it a range of 140 miles. It won't be a huge jump into the 200-mile club, but it will be an improvement.
