Vadavalli police have registered a case against Ukkadam resident A. John Samuel (20) on charges of assaulting and harassing his wife Anbumary alias Rishwana(20).
The police said that on Saturday evening, Samuel assaulted Anbumary with a wooden log and threatened her with dire consequences after she refused to accompany him to a hospital. The police also said that Samuel was an alcoholic and quarrelled frequently with his wife.
Four arrested
Saibaba Colony police have arrested Kamaraj Road resident A. Mohammed Anshif (22) and his friends B. Vignesh (21) of Kavundampalayam, S. Abdul Hakkim (22) of The Nilgiris, and N. Sarath (19) of Kavundampalayam, on charges of kidnapping and assaulting Selvapuram resident S. Mohammed Riyaz (18) on Saturday night. The police said that Anshif and friends kidnapped Riyaz near a temple on Lawley Road, assaulted him in the car, and dropped him off near the Government College of Technology, Thadagam Road, later that night. Based on a complaint from Riyaz, the police registered a case. The motive was that Riyaz was in love with Anshif’s sister, the police said.
Man dies in accident
Sanjay (30) from Maniyakarampalayam in Ganapathy and residing at Vadavalli, working as an assistant manager in a private bank’s branch at Peelamedu, was fatally knocked down by a TNSTC bus on 100-ft road. The victim was on a motorcycle, when the accident took place.
He is survived by wife and a two-year-old child. Traffic Investigation Wing police are investigating.
Youth killed
Thirumalaiyampalayam residents V. Nanthakumar (18) was killed and V. Chandrakumar (20) sustained injuries when the two-wheelers they were riding rammed a goods carrier near Chettipalayam Pirivu on Saturday night.
The Madukkarai Police said that Nanthakumar who was not wearing helmet sustained injuries and died on the way to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. Chandrakumar was rushed to a private hospital in the city.
The police have registered a case in this connection.
School headmaster killed in accident
Bhagat Singh (58), headmaster of the Government High School, Idigarai, was killed in an accident on Pannimadai Road on Sunday night. The Thudiyalur Police, who have registered a case, said that the accident involving Singh’s two-wheeler and another motorcycle took place when he was returning home around 10 p.m. after dropping a relation at a bus stop on Mettupalayam Road. The police said that the rider of the second two-wheeler rode the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and hit Singh’s vehicle. He died on the spot.
Teachers stage protest, 70 held
Tamil Nadu Primary School Teachers’ Association members staged a protest near Coimbatore South Taluk Office on Monday against a government order reclaiming a part of their salary.
In the protest that saw the participation of over 350 teachers, a few teachers burnt copies of the order. The Race Course police removed nearly 70 teachers.
