PATNA: Former CM Rabri Devi and her son and leader of opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav took a dig at CM Nitish Kumar after the Supreme Court on Tuesday rapped the state government over the Muzaffarpur shelter home case probe.
“The SC is doing the state government’s job. The government helped its minister (former social welfare minister Kumari Manju Verma) flee. It was due to the pressure mounted by the SC that Manju was put behind bars,” Rabri said, adding the state government would not take action against other culprits without the court’s intervention.

According to Rabri, Nitish-led NDA government does not take a single step without being reprimanded by the court. “We would like to thank the Supreme Court for its interventions on such serious matters,” Rabri told reporters on the sidelines of the legislative council proceedings.

Tejashwi was equally critical. “Our chacha (uncle Nitish) is scared. He is trying to avoid answering our questions, but the state government will have to think about the strict observation made by the SC,” he said, adding criminals were ruling the roost but the state government was not at all worried about it.

“I don’t think the SC admonition would create any impact on the state government which has been only protecting criminals,” the former deputy CM told reporters on the sidelines of the legislative assembly proceedings.

He recalled the FIR in the Muzaffarpur case was lodged after a delay of two months and the name of main accused was not included in it. “The CM has been trying to suppress this grave matter right from the very beginning. He should have come forward and spoken on the issue, but he has kept mum,” Tejashwi said.

The JD (U), on the other hand, claimed the state government was taking all possible steps for ensuring fair probe into the case. “It was the state government which recommended a CBI inquiry into the case and became an intervenor when the case was taken up by the Patna high court,” JD (U) MLC Neeraj Kumar said.
