An engineering graduate, who allegedly stabbed to death his former lover, was arrested on Tuesday.
The police said Mercy, 20, of Perunchilabmu near Thuckalay in Kanniyakumari district, who was working with a textile showroom at Valliyoor, fell in love with S. Ravindran, an engineering graduate from Thirukkurunkudi near Valliyoor, who was also working in the textile showroom for a while.
When they were in good terms, Ravindran reportedly presented her a gold ornament and gave money whenever she was in need of it.
After Ravindran left the job, Mercy developed a relationship with another youth so that Ravindran asked her to return the gold ornament and the money he had given to her. As she reportedly refused, Ravindran, under the influence of alcohol, stabbed her to death when she was crossing a narrow lane near her workplace at around 6 p.m. She died on the spot with multiple stab injuries. Since the scene of crime was close to the busy Valliyoor Main Road, passersby immediately nabbed and thrashed Ravindran before handing him over to the police.
The police have registered a case.
