On the eve of its day-long hunger strike, the newly elected Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers’ Association (JNUTA) said its request to the Vice-Chancellor for a meeting was not acknowledged till Sunday.

The association added that administration was on the one hand expressing interest in a mutual dialogue, while threatening teachers with punitive action on the other.

The JNUTA has planned a day-long hunger strike on Monday.

It is demanding restoration of academic and institutional functioning of JNU and has said it will go ahead with the strike as planned.

“JNU teachers have always protested in the most peaceful way, without disrupting the day-to-day functioning of the university, and shall continue to do so, exercising the Constitutional rights given to us as citizens,” said the teachers.
