LUCKNOW: A 26-year old man was shot at by unidentified miscreants outside a mall in Vibhuti Khand police station area on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday soon after he had confronted them for harassing his female friend and misbehaving with her in the bar.
The victim, Ankit Singh, a resident of Vishesh Khand, is undergoing treatment in KGMU Trauma Centre.

Ankit had gone to a bar in the mall with his woman friend on Sunday night.

In his complaint, he told police that at around 1am some unidentified miscreants, who were drunk, tried to come close to his woman friend on the dance floor.

Initially, they avoided them but when the miscreants started passing lewd comments on her, Ankit confronted them.

“A verbal spat erupted between us and then they started beating me. When my friend intervened to stop them, they misbehaved with her and tried to molest her,” Ankit said in his complaint.

Ankit came out of the mall with his friend after the spat and was in the car parking when the miscreants came from behind and started assaulting him once again.

They again misbehaved with his woman friend when she intervened.

In the meantime, the miscreants opened fire, hitting Ankit in his thigh and then fled from the spot.

Ankit’s maternal uncle Bajrangi Singh, who is a BJP leader, told police that Ankit called him at around 1.30am and informed him about the incident and that he had been shot at. Bajrangi rushed to the spot and took Ankit to KGMU Trauma Centre.

“Police have traced the miscreants as they had made payment in the bar through a card. The accused will be nabbed very soon,” said Gomtinagar circle officer (CO) AC Srivastava.

“Police teams have been formed for tracing the accused and search operation has been launched . We have also recorded the statements of others present in the bar when the tiff started,” he added.

An FIR has been registered against miscreants for attempt to murder, assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty, rioting, voluntarily causing hurt and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.
