Woman Turns On Train Tracks After Following GPS Directions

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that GPS directions aren’t foolproof, but one driver in Pennsylvania apparently didn’t get the memo.

In a Facebook post, the Duquesne Police Department told the tale of a driver who took a wrong turn and ended up on the railroad tracks. According to the post, the incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. at the corner of Grant Avenue and State Route 837.

The women who was driving the car apparently made a premature turn and ended up getting her to Kia Optima stuck on the railroad tracks. Witnesses called police and they quickly arrived on the scene.

The GPS made me do it

When officers spoke with the driver, she said she was following GPS directions and this is where they told her to drive. That seems unlikely and it’s possible the women turned when the navigation system was simply informing her of an upcoming turn.

Regardless of how the events transpired, the woman was cited for careless driving and her car was towed away from the scene. The police appear to have been taken back by the incident as the posted noted “The female was 100% sober and had no medical conditions affecting her decision-making.”

The post doesn’t mention the driver’s age, but some commenters have suggested the driver might have been an elderly woman who simply got confused. That seems possible as it wouldn’t be the first time an elderly driver has done something bizarre behind the wheel.
