PATNA: A 55-year-old bank employee was stabbed to death and his 28-year-old son injured by unidentified motorcycle-borne criminals in broad daylight in Banka district on Monday.
The incident occurred near Samukhiya Mor under the Banka police station around 11am when Arun Kumar Mandal along with son Ashish Kumar was headed towards Samukhiya bus stand on his motorcycle. They were intercepted and stabbed by the goons with a sharp knife. Mandal died on the spot.
Banka SP Chandan Kumar Kushwaha said the deceased was a cashier in the Sajour branch of UCO Bank in Bhagalpur district. “We have recorded the statement of Ashish, who is undergoing treatment at Banka sadar hospital. He alleged his elder brother Amit Kumar’s brothers-in-law Anil Mandal and Kapil Mandal besides another man were involved in the crime,” the SP told this reporter over the phone.
Ashish attributed the killing to acrimonious ties of his elder brother Amit Kumar with wife Anjani Kumari. “They have been married for 7-8 years and have three daughters. Amit had a tiff with wife after which she went to her maternal home and was demanding her dowry money,” Ashish said, adding Anjani’s family members had criminal antecedents.
Ashish has lodged a complaint in which he has named Anil Mandal, Kapil Mandal, Anjani Kumari and their mother Vimla Devi as well as one unidentified man as accused. “Police have arrested Anjani while the others are absconding. Raids are on to nab them,” the SP said.
