Surat: Police arrested six young men from an area under the limits of Varachha police station on Monday for allegedly ransacking a petrol pump and attacking its staff for refusing to give petrol to them in a plastic bottle. The accused first thrashed the staff and later damaged the properties of the petrol pump here on Saturday night.

The six youths were arrested from their houses in Varachha on a complaint by Suresh Naik, 64. Police have recovered CCTV footages in which the accused youths in the age group of 20 to 25 can be seen attacking the staff and damaging the properties of the petrol pump.

Naik in his complaint alleged that two youths came on a motorcycle to buy petrol in a plastic bottle on Saturday night. The staff refused to give petrol in the plastic bottle to them after which they returned with some more youths and attacked the petrol pump attendants Raju Nagrade and Naresh Patel. The accused then started throwing notice boards and dustbins all over the place. The terrorized petrol pump staff hid for their safety. The accused later escaped from the spot. “The six accused were nabbed during investigation. They were identified from the CCTV footages,” said a police officer at Varachha police station.
