Senior IAS officer Naveen Raj Singh, secretary in-charge of Hassan district, directed officers of the district administration to take measures to address drinking water problems in drought-hit parts of Arsikere, Channarayapatna and Belur taluks.

He held a meeting with officers of Hassan district here on Saturday, following Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s direction. Arsikere, Channarayapatna and Belur have been declared drought-hit.

Officers were directed to conduct a survey of crop loss caused due by drought and submit a report of the same to the State government. The farmers should be told about alternative crops they could take up cultivation of to compensate for the loss, he said.

He also suggested that officers take up repair works in parts of Alur, Sakleshpur, Arkalgud and Belur taluks where damages were reported owing to heavy rains earlier. School buildings and roads should be repaired and retaining walls should be constructed wherever necessary, he said.
