Indian shuttlers Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap are set to tie the knot next month and their wedding card was released on the social media on Monday.

Saina and Kashyap had earlier confirmed the D-day to be on December 16, 2018. 

Saina now confirmed the reports about her marriage to fellow shuttler Kashyap calling it the right time. She also shared a few details about the couple’s courtship.

When asked about the reason for picking December 16 for the wedding date, Saina said that was the only date the two of them were free.

"I will get busy with the Premier Badminton League from December 20 and then qualifiers for the Tokyo Games will begin. So this was the only date that we had to get married.” 

Saina was picked up by Northeastern Warriors for this edition of Premier Badminton League.

While both badminton players are said to have been dating for the past 10 years, this is the first time either has acknowledged the relationship publicly. 

"We started travelling for bigger tours from 2007-08 onwards. We played tournaments together, trained together and slowly, started paying more attention to each other's matches,” Saina told TOI. 

“In the competitive world that we live in, it is difficult to get close to someone. But somehow we both found it very easy to talk to each other, talk about our matches. The feeling gradually grew.” 

She also revealed why she thought it was the right time to get married.
