TN Chief electoral officer Satyabrata Sahoo informed the Madurai bench of Madras High Court on Monday that By-poll for Tiruvarur constituency would be held before February 7.

The by- polls to Tiruvarur and Tiruparankundram have to be conducted by January 4 and January 7 as per the six-month vacancy period time specified under the Election Commission rules. Following a petition filed in Madurai bench of Madras High Court, Satyabrata Sahoo informed the Court that the by- poll for Tiruvarur constituency would be held before February 7.
Indeed, the electoral officer told the Court that by-poll for Tiruparankundram could not be held as the case filed by Dr Saravanan challenging the victory of AK Bose is still pending in Madras High Court.
A resident of Madurai, KK Ramesh, filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in Madurai bench of Madras High court directing the election commission to hold the election for Tiruparankundram and Tiruvarur constituency.
Tiruparankundram legislator AK Bose died on August 2 and DMK leader M Karunanidhi, representing Tiruvarur, died on August 7.
