Video teases Rivian vehicles

Rivian Automotive's big day is almost here.

The electric vehicle startup is set to debut two vehicles, an SUV and a pickup, this week at AutoMobility LA and teased at least one of them in a video on its YouTube channel.

The 58-second video has the feel of a science fiction movie before cutting to an aerial view of what appears to be a pickup driving on a dirt road. As the vehicle drives off, the words "Unplug" and "Charge On" appear.

Just before the clip ends, a front view of one of the vehicles is shown, bringing attention to a thin, bright light bar that runs the width of the vehicle, the Rivian logo on the hood and two smaller vertical lights.

Rivian's video shows what appears to be a pickup driving on a dirt road.

Rivian plans to make the vehicles at the former Mitsubishi plant in Illinois and begin shipping in mid-2020.

"We're launching a vehicle that has to deliver a lot of technology — electrification, connectivity, self-driving," founder RJ Scaringe said last month during a presentation at Automotive News' office in Detroit.
