PATNA: War of supremacy for re-encroaching roadside area, cleared by administration, for setting stalls resulted in killing of a person with criminal antecedents near Churi Market under Kadamkuan police station area in the city on Saturday night.
The deceased, identified as Deepak Sahni (32) was shot by four unidentified criminals when he was standing outside his sister’s shop at Churi Market at around 8pm. He was rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital(PMCH) but died during treatment.
Police said Sahni was shot thrice in his abdomen and at least two empty cartridges were recovered from spot.
Following the killing, locals kept Nala Road blocked for several hours on Sunday starting from 10am demanding arrest of killers as well as providing financial assistance to deceased’s family.
According to police war of supremacy was main reason behind killing. “Deepak and his associates were in a tussle with rival group for trying to re-encroach road side area near market for setting up shops which was removed by district administration more than a month back,” Manu Mahraaj said.
At around midnight on Saturday, police arrested Deepak Kumar, one of the suspects to be involved in killing while he was attempting to flee out of Patna.
Mahraaj said that apart from Deepak, rest four killers were identified as Bhawani alias Pandit, Rahul Kumar and Abhishek Kumar and police teams were conducting raids to nab them.
“Bhawnai and Rahul fled towards Mokama after the killing and police chased them till midnight,” SSP said adding one police team was sent outside Patna to nab the duo. He said all four were named as accused in the FIR lodged by the victim’s sister Dolly Kumari who also runs a small shop at Churi Market.
“The deceased along with others was involved in demanding extortion from a sweet and snacks shop at Kankarbagh in 2013 which is a part of a nationwide chain. Later he was also found involved in a dacoity case. Recently he had come out of jail in a liquor smuggling case,” SSP said.
He said that rivalry was going among the groups since more than a fortnight and police had gone near Chudi market multiple times after receiving information of gathering and clash of anti-social elements.
