Tamil Nadu Council of Education Research (SCERT), in collaboration with the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA) has developed a framework for school standards and evaluation. The framework will be field-tested in various schools at different geographical areas across the state.

According to the official, the School Standards and Evaluation Framework (SSEF) has been developed as a comprehensive instrument for school evaluation. It enables the school to evaluate its critical performance areas against the well-defined criteria in a focused and strategic manner.
The SSEF is also formulated through a participatory approach, involving state-level functionaries, district and block level education officers, educators, school heads, teacher unions and teachers.
The official explained that the SSE framework is a strategic instrument for both self and external evaluation. Self-evaluation is considered as the nucleus of the school evaluation process.
Accordingly, the officials will check whether the schools have a clear vision/ mission statement and development plan that is shared and understood by all. After collecting necessary data, it will be implemented in all government schools from this year, the official added.
A senior official from the SCERT told DT Next that the field tests will be undertaken in Tiruchy, Salem, Tiruvannamalai and Thoothukudi. The training programme will be imparted to the school head masters and other stakeholders to fix their future and development plan.
