Garbage problems, encroachment of drains and footpaths were some of the grievances raised by residents from East zone of the BBMP at the Janaspandana programme on Saturday.

Hundreds of residents from Shanthinagar, Shivajinagar, Sarvajna Nagar, C.V. Raman Nagar, Hebbal, and Pulikeshinagar Assembly constituencies attended the meeting to discuss the problems they face in their neighbourhoods.

Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara chaired the programme that also saw participation of Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun, Ruling Party Leader in the BBMP council M. Shivaraju, BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad, BWSSB chairperson Tushar Girinath and other senior officials.

Raising questions about unscientific collection and processing of waste, one of the participants sought to know if there was a solution to Bengaluru’s garbage problem. Raman from Domlur complained about the stench emanating from the rajakaluve in his neighbourhood and claimed that several representations had been submitted in this regard. Another Shanthinagar resident complained about poor sanitary conditions and absence of basic amenities in government schools.

After registering the grievances of the residents, Mr. Prasad assured citizens that officials would be directed to address all the issues raised within a week.

Mr. Parameshwara said the state government was committed to overall development of the city and had earmarked nearly ₹21,000 crore to be spent on various projects over the next three years. He also said that projects worth ₹9,000 crore had already been taken up.
