A Jaguar F-Type Shooting Brake Could Very Well Be Our Dream Car

There’s something about the Shooting Brake bodystyle that has intrigued car enthusiasts for decades.

While they are exceptionally rare, there is something very appealing about having a two-door sports car that features an elongated roofline. Not only does it improve practicality, it’s also (in most cases) extremely pleasing to the eye.

Take this Jaguar F-Type Shooting Brake rendering, for example. Created by Rain Prisk, it depicts the F-Type R with a revised roof and rear end that transforms the entire look of the car. A standard F-Type, without even the slightest tweak to its styling, is already one of the best-looking production vehicles on planet Earth. Transforming it into a Shooting Brake takes it from a 10/10 straight to 11 – or more.

The thing is, this is just a styling exercise, and as good as it looks, there’s very little chance Jaguar will ever decide to build an F-Type Shooting Brake. Instead, the British manufacturer is said to be considering an overhaul of the F-Type family, which could include an all-electric version as well as a series of hybrid powertrains.

What’s more, Jaguar Land Rover is reportedly looking to ink a deal with BMW, which will see it replace its aging 5.0-liter supercharged V8 with the German manufacturer’s familiar 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. And that’s not all.

In 2020, Jaguar will allegedly launch an all-new generation of F-Type as a 2+2. There’s a chance this could harm the vehicle’s evocative styling, but if Jaguar’s designers get it right, they could create a vehicle that looks as good as the current car but is more practical.
