DUBBAKA: Forty-eight hours after TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao called PM Narendra Modi “communal” and charged him with sitting on Telangana’s proposal to enhance quotas for Muslims and Dalits, BJP national president Amit Shah said NDA would neither allow reservations for Muslims nor allow others to grant them quotas.
He said BJP is against religion-based reservations and won’t allow it as long as the party is in power. “Knowing well it was not possible, the TRS government proposed to increase the Muslim quota from 4% to 12% and hike the quota for STs from 6% to 10%. The state assembly passed resolutions and sent it to the Centre for statute amendment. But there is a Supreme Court verdict that restricts quotas to 50%. We will only protect quotas for reserved categories,” he said at a public meeting at Dubbaka on Sunday.
