Australia claimed their fourth Women’s World T20 title in style, bowling England out for 105 and easing to their target for the loss of just two wickets at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. Australia dominated the proceedings with both the bat and the ball in the summit clash to run away comfortable winners. They chased down the target of 106 runs with 29 balls to spare as Ashleigh Gardner (33) and Meg Lanning (28) combined to put on a match-winning 3rd wicket stand of 72 runs.
Ahead of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s World T20, Australia men’s limited-overs team skipper Aaron Finch on Saturday praised the women’s squad for their performance throughout the tournament. As Australia gear up for their finals against old rivals England, Finch said, “Meg (Lanning) and Matt (Matthew Mott, the coach) have led that side really well, and the girls have played some great cricket. To get such a convincing win against a really dominant Windies (West Indies) was really important going into that final against England,” according to ICC.
Brief scores: England 105 all out in 19.4 overs (Danielle Wyatt 43, Heather Knight 25; Ashleigh Gardner 3-22, Gerogia Wareham 2-11) lost to Australia 106/2 in 15.1 overs (Ashleigh Gardner 33*, Meg Lanning 28*; Sophie Ecclestone 1-12) by eight wickets.
