NEW DELHI: The bodies of a 24-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were found in a room in south Delhi’s Chhatarpur on Monday evening. The woman was found lying on the floor with her throat slit while the man’s body was hanging by the ceiling fan.

Senior police officers said that the victims have been identified as Abhishek and Aishna. An investigation has been initiated to probe the two deaths.

A preliminary probe revealed that the two were in a live-in relationship and had moved to the house one-and-a-half months ago. They both were natives of Kolkata, where they had studied graphic designing in a private institute. Cops said that Aishna was working with a private firm in Noida as a web developer.

Investigating officers said that the incident was reported at 7pm on Monday when the woman’s friend, who lives nearby, went to see her after failing to get a response from her on the phone. She saw Abhishek hanging from the fan from outside and informed the cops, after which the door was broken and Aishna was found in a pool of blood. Both were taken to a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared them brought dead.

The victim’s friend told cops that both of them were in a relationship and had been living together in the rented room. Abhishek was also working with a private firm in the city.

However, due to frequent fights, Abhishek had returned to his house in Kolkata and had come back to Delhi three days ago. Since then, the couple had been arguing regularly.

Cops said that on Monday, nobody saw the two of them heading out of the room. A knife-like object was also found lying next to the body. The probe so far has indicated that Abhishek murdered Aishna after an argument and then hanged himself.

The teams are now scanning CCTV footage form the area to obtain more information. Cops have seized their mobile phones and are checking them to find out the reason behind the murder and the alleged suicide. A forensic team visited the room and has collected samples.

The bodies have been shifted to the mortuary and the family members of the two have been informed about the incident.
