Three days after six African nationals — four Tanzanian women and two Nigerians — were attacked on basis of rumours of kidnapping and cannibalism, the Delhi Police have registered a case against unknown people after two of them informed the police. No arrests have been made yet.
According to the police, two women said that the locals had forcefully restrained them on the grounds that the women had kidnapped a young boy in Harsh Vihar, Kakrola area, Dwarka. A case under sections 341 (whoever wrongfully restrains any person), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) has been registered with the Dwarka North Police Station.
According to police, there were rumours that they had kidnapped and eaten a 17-year-old boy. The police dispersed the mob and managed to rescue the six foreign nationals. One of them was staying in the country on an expired visa.
A video of the incident, which went viral, shows cops protecting an African woman who the mob is trying to attack in Kakrola village, Dwarka. A local woman said that the African nationals ate a teenage boy. Another local man in the video says, "They have chopped the boy and eaten him up. They have eaten him."
Anto Alphonse, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dwarka said, "The locals gathered in front of the house where the African nationals were staying on rent for the last two months," Alphonse said. The residents threatened other African nationals living in the area and called them "cannibals". Police investigations revealed that the boy had not even gone missing.
The commotion began around 6.57 pm after the police received a PCR call stating that there was a fight with foreign nationals. Around 200 people had gathered in front of the house. The drama went on for around 45 minutes. Alphonse said that the six foreign nationals were rescued and taken to a safe place. The police is carrying out further investigations.
