Police arrest man, 21, after Balcatta citizens join in dramatic chase
Meth Enforcement Taskforce officers have arrested a 21-year-old man after his dramatic alleged flight through streets and homes in Balcatta endangered members of the public.
About 6.30pm on Saturday evening the officers were travelling through the suburb when they saw a Holden Captiva allegedly being driven recklessly on Beryl Street.
They tried to stop the driver, who allegedly failed to stop, and then aborted the attempt.
Soon afterwards the car crashed at the intersection of Main Street and Amelia Street and the driver allegedly fled on foot.
It will be further alleged he jumped a nearby fence and assaulted a resident before jumping another fence and entering a home where a man and his four-year-old were.
The accused then allegedly assaulted a member of the public, who saw what was happening and went into the house to help.
"A large amount of damage was caused to the inside of the residence," police said.
"Police attended and located the driver of the vehicle hiding in the roof."
The man was arrested and taken into custody.
The vehicle, identified as stolen, allegedly contained weapons, drug paraphernalia, stolen property and a disguise.
The 21-year-old man from Banjup was charged with breach of bail, car theft, reckless driving to escape police, failing to stop, driving without authority, reckless driving, common assault, aggravated common assault and criminal damage or destruction of property.
He was refused bail and was due to appear at the Northbridge sitting of Perth Magistrates Court on Sunday.
