CHENNAI: A 45-year-old ex-army man, a security guard at ESI medical college and hospital in KK Nagar, has been arrested for harassing a 21-year-old medical student on Friday. Police booked him under charges of harassing Priya(name changed), hailing from Palakkad in Kerala.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that R Ganesan, a native of a village near Aruppukottai, was married and had two sons. His wife is a teacher at a government school in Kancheepuram.

Ganesan had been working as a security guard in the hospital for the past five years. He was earlier enlisted with the EME division in Secunderabad. He had been keeping a close watch on the girl from the day she started training at the hospital, police said. When she graduated to second year, Ganesan tried to talk to her. Initially, Priya ignored him but later Ganesan started harassing her when she graduated to third year. She had complained to the college authorities about him then. The authorities had immediately placed him under suspension.

Ganesan, who had professed his love by sending a letter to Priya through courier proposing marriage earlier, met Priya on the campus on Friday. As Priya complained of Ganesan’s visit, a police team from MGR Nagar police station picked him up. Upon further questioning, police officials recovered the love letter. It was also found that Ganesan was ready to leave his wife and children. He had plans to rent a house soon after getting married to Priya.
