TOI-Online | Updated: Nov 25, 2018, 14:00 IST
NEW DELHI: IIM Calcutta successfully conducted the first slot of CAT 2018 on November 25, 2018. The exam went smoothly sans any technical glitch. As expected, the total number of questions was 100, VARC section was of 34 questions, DI LR with 32 questions and Quantitative section had 34 questions.
For the first slot, the pattern of the VARC section was pretty much along the lines of CAT 2017, except for minute structural changes. The Parajumbles were easy and doable. The major surprise that left students flabbergasted was the Quant section which was the most difficult QA section in CAT in the last 10 years, thereby negating its possibility of being the differentiator. DILR section was almost on the lines of CAT 2015, 16, 17. Nevertheless, the level of difficulty was the same as the last years.
CAT Exam Analysis 2018: Section-wise Review
VARC
There were 4 passages with 5 questions each and a set of 1 passage with four questions. The Parajumbles were easy as compared to the last couple of years. There were 4-5 sentences of which the sequence had to be decided.
Good attempts could range between 25-26 and with an accuracy of 90%, one can manage a 95%ile.
DILR
The DILR section was on the same lines as that of 2015, 16 and 17. It continued to be scary running behind the Quant section.
Quantitative Aptitude
The most Dominant perception regarding this section this year can be summed up as, "aspirants could not attempt as many questions in the QA and the DILR section as they did in the VARC section alone." This pretty much sums up how devastating was the quant section. Algebra along with geometry overshadowed the other topics in quant.
There were 24 TITA questions in all. VARC had 6 TITA questions, while Quant and DILR had 9 each.
CAT 2018 Good Attempts
Good Attempts for each section can be delineated as follows:
An overall attempt of 55+ with a90% accuracy will fact you 99%ile.
