Bangor City are on the lookout for a manager again following the departure of Stephen Vaughan Jr to Maltese club Mosta FC.

Vaughan Jr took over first-team affairs at Nantporth five weeks ago and led the side to five successive wins before deciding his future lay elsewhere.

He leaves the Citizens placed third in the Huws Gray Alliance following last night's 3-0 home victory over Prestatyn Town and looking to appoint their third manager this term after Craig Harrison's switch to Connah's Quay Nomads as head coach last month.

Vaughan Jr has agreed to take the assistant-manager's post at Mosta in the Maltese Premier League, where he will join up with experienced pro-license coach Mark Miller.

Former Liverpool and Chester City player Vaughan Jr previously held the role of director of football at Bangor before becoming interim first team boss..

A Bangor City statement said: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank Stephen for the work he has done at the club as director of football, head of recruitment, under -19s manager and interim first-team manager.

"In Stephen's two-and-a-half-years at the club we have seen the first team finish fourth and second in the Welsh Premier League, winning 5 games from 5 as interim first team boss as well as establishing a link between the academy and first team.

"Homegrown players such as Cai Owen, Guto Williams, Alex Boss, Sam Jones, Gethin Thomas, Sam Ashworth, Leon Jones, Gruff Evans, Kian Owen and Cian Williams among others have all broken through to the first team squad in his time."

While the off-the-field situation at Bangor as to who will be running the club remains unclear, the immediate priority is to get a new boss in place with the club stating today that a "new management team will be announced in due course".

So who would be the ideal candidates for the Bangor City job? Here are six who might fit the bill.

Alan Morgan

Departed company with Colwyn Bay in September for "economic reasons" after budget cuts left him with a depleted squad.

Knows the Welsh football scene well, having led Llandudno to the Huws Gray Alliance title in 2014/15 before the Seasiders had an amazing first-ever season in the Welsh Premier, finishing third and qualifying for Europe.

Morgan is also popular with Bangor fans, having been assistant to Neville Powell when the Citizens lifted the Welsh Cup in 2008 and 2009 before moving on to manage Aberystwyth.

Alan Lewer

Experienced non-league manager who along with Luke Purcell has assisted Vaughan Jr in his interim-boss role over the past month.

Transition would be smooth as he already knows the club and players well.

Lewer managed Southport last year and has previous experience at the helm of Weymouth, Histon and Forest Green Rovers as well as being part of the staff at Chester City and Bangor City.

Iwan Williams

Currently enduring a difficult time as manager of Llandudno in the Welsh Premier League.

Young and highly motivated, a change of direction could be just what the doctor ordered, but he remains determined to get Tudno out of their current rut.

Williams has won the Huws Gray Alliance title with Caernarfon Town in the past.

Gareth Thomas

Manager of Conwy Borough, Gareth Thomas

Having led Conwy Borough to a notable treble in his first season in charge, Thomas' first campaign at the Morfa club in the Huws Gray Alliance is going well.

Another with good pedigree at tier-two level and an in-depth knowledge of North Wales football that is second to none.

Paul Whelan

How about this for a longshot? This rumour is already doing the rounds.

Bangor City's crowd figures have plummeted since the club dropped into the Huws Gray Alliance, so would the return of an eternal Citizens hero get the fans flocking back?

"Whelo" will always be best known for scoring City's goal at Wembley in the 1984 FA Trophy Final, but as a manager he went on to win the Cymru Alliance double with Glantraeth before taking over at Porthmadog.

This all happened a few years ago, though. How would he adapt to the current situation?

Lee Dixon

Bangor lad who began his playing career at City, where his dad Don was reserve team boss for many years.

Lee took a break from football at the end of 2014/15 after leading Caernarfon Town to five trophies in two seasons.

Whenever top jobs become vacant on the North Wales football scene, Dixon's name is often thrown into the hat, but up to now he has been content to continue enjoying family time and concentrating on his business interests.

Could the chance to lead Bangor City lure him back into football?
