Vadodara: Forest officials have zeroed down upon the leopard that had killed two girls in Dhanpur taluka in Dahod district. The pugmarks of the leopard were located during a major search operation by personnel of the forest department.

Officials said that after locating the pugmarks, the places where cages to trap the leopard were kept had been changed. Officials said that the leopard had killed a dog on Friday giving another clue regarding its movement.

Chief conservator of forest (Vadodara circle) S K Shrivastava said that goats had also been tied at multiple locations in the area to ascertain the leopard’s movement if it killed one of them. Also, if the leopard preyed on a goat, it may not attack a human.

The leopard’s act of dragging the two girls into the forest has, however, raised concerns. This is being seen as an indication that it may have wanted to eat the girls, but could not do so as an alarm was raised. The forest department has given a compensation of Rs four lakh each to the relatives of the deceased girls.
