32 wickets fall in 2 days as Bangladesh beat West Indies in Chittagong Test

Bangladesh beat West Indies by 64 runs in the first Test in Chittagong to gain a 1-0 lead in the three-match series after 15 wickets fell on Saturday. 

The match saw 32 wickets fall in two days as 17 wickets had gone down the day before. The match lasted only 8 sessions as West Indies were bowled out for 139 runs before tea on the third day. 

Earlier, Bangladesh were bowled out for 125 to set West Indies a target of 204. The tourists slipped to 11/4 by lunch. Sunil Ambris (43) and Jomel Warrican (41) delayed the Bangladesh victory with a ninth-wicket stand of 63. 

Taijul Islam was the architect of the hosts' win with figures of 6/33 in the Windies second innings. Taijul now has 41 Test wickets in 2018- the most by a Bangladeshi bowler in a calendar year.

This is Bangladesh’s first Test victory over West Indies in nine matches dating back to 2009 and first ever at home. 

Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to claim 200 wickets in Tests. 

Kieran Powell was out stumped first ball trying to give Shakib the charge. Shai Hope was out caught behind at 11/2. 

Taijul then sent back Kraigg Brathwaite and Roston Chase in the same over.

Shimron Hetmyer began the afternoon session by hitting Shakib for two fours and a six in successive deliveries, but then fell to a simple catch at. Taijul then got Shane Dowrich trapped LBW and bowled Devendra Bishoo. 

Taijul completed his five-wicket haul as he dismissed Kemar Roach. Mehidu Hasan broke the stand between Warrican and Ambris when Warrican was held at deep midwicket by Shakib. Taijul finished the match with his sixth when he had Ambris caught behind.
