NITK Karavali Marathon-19 to be a full marathon

Padma Shri awardee PT Usha will be the Brand Ambassador for NITK Karavali Marathon.MANGALURU: The 2019 edition of the NITK Karavali Marathon will become bigger and better with the introduction of a full marathon of 42.2km. The event is scheduled on January 13, and the queen of Indian athletics, Padma Shri awardee PT Usha is the brand ambassador for the event.
This year's edition is expected to see as many as 3,000 participants. PT Usha will launch the promotion of the NITK Karavali Marathon-2019 edition at the institute campus on Sunday.
The unique feature of the marathon is that part of it will take place on the scenic NITK Surathkal beach, along a beach-side temple and a lighthouse.
The NITK Karavali Marathon 2019 is organised by NITK Alumni Association with support of the Rotaract Club and the NITK Students' Council.
Organisers said that in addition to promoting health consciousness, the 2019 edition of the Karavali Marathon will highlight the causes of 'Run for Unity' to promote social harmony and 'Save the Oceans' to propagate the pressing issue of impact on ocean ecosystem, that is an integral part of the Karavali region.
The event also includes timed runs of half marathon (21.1km), 10 km, 5 km and a fun run of 3km. The event that is open to men, women and children above 10, has a low nominal fee and carries a total prize money of Rs 2.25 lakh. Participants will get T-shirts, timing certificate, immediate results via SMS, physio support for recovery and food and entertainment.
The vision is to make NITK Karavali Marathon a unique signature event of the region, and take it to the world-class level in a short span. This event is supported by partners like - Mysuru based Lonrun Timings for latest timing technology, Bengaluru based PhysioBeFit for health and physio and Vignesh Agencies of Surathkal for hydration.
