Man assaulted in full public view in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: A 22-year-old man was chased by a three-member gang in front of the Coimbatore Integrated Court Complex at Arts College Road here on Saturday morning and assaulted by the gang using a sickle over a previous enmity in full public view. The man entered a supermarket to save himself.
The city police later arrested the three accused and seized a motorcycle and a sickle from them later.
The injured person was identified as Surya (22), a resident of Kamatchiamman Street at Ramanathapuram. He suffered injuries on his head and back and was admitted at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).
Police said, Surya and his accomplices had some previous enmity with D Karthick (25) and his younger brother D Deepak (23), both hailing from Olympus in Ramanathapuram. Surya was allegedly assaulted by Karthick, two months ago at Singanallur. To take revenge, Surya and his three accomplices - Dinesh, Arunkumar and Gijendran had hatched a conspiracy and stabbed Karthick using a knife on September 26, 2018 and the trio managed to escape.
However, Ramanathapuram police arrested Surya and his three friends for attempt to murder of Karthick and they were lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
Meanwhile Arunkumar, Gijendran and Dinesh obtained conditional bail last month and came out. Surya had also obtained conditional bail on November 16 and he was directed to mark attendance every day before the judicial magistrate court-VI until further order.
On Saturday around 9.50 am, Surya got down from a passenger autorickshaw and was waiting in front of the court main gate on Arts College road. Deepak and his two friends R Sanjay and M Sujith came there on a motorcycle.
Sanjay had a sickle with which he assaulted Surya, who suffered injuries on his head and back but managed to save himself by entering a supermarket. Meanwhile, a police team on patrol, reached the spot even as the three-member gang managed to escape from the spot. The police took Surya to the CMCH where he was given treatment.
Based on his complaint, Race Course police registered a case against the trio under sections 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested Deepak, Sujith and Sanjay. Police seized a motorcycle and a sickle from them on Saturday evening. Further investigation in the case is on.
