Vadodara: Call it a theft attempt or a false alarm – panic triggers were pressed on Friday night when it came to light that some persons attempted to enter the bungalow of municipal commissioner in Kamatibaug area of the city.
Sources said the incident had come to light on Friday night when VMC personnel spotted some persons around the bungalow. It later came to light that the fence put up above the compound wall of the bungalow was also cut open.
VMC officials said the officials of Sayajigunj police station also reached the spot to look into the incident. Sayajigunj police inspector Haresh Vora said some persons were trying to enter the area from Vishwamitri ravines, but they may have been urchins.
However, presence of a hacksaw blade near the spot where the suspicious persons were spotted raises eyebrows. A VMC official said the incident had taken place at around 10.30pm, usually not a time when burglars strike.
Security in Kamatibaug has come under a cloud time and again. Over the years, incidents like theft of sandalwood trees, exotic birds and even a break-in in the museum have taken place.
Opposite the Kamatibaug too incidents of theft of sandalwood trees were reported recently. On November 15, miscreants broke into the bungalow of vice-chancellor (VC) of MS University to steal a sandalwood tree. Besides VC’s bungalow, another tree was stolen from Chamelibaug which is also situated opposite gate 2 of Sayajibaug.
